OSCARS(ACADEMY) AWARDS in Music
The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, primarily focus on recognizing achievements in the film industry. While music plays a significant role in films and is often honored through categories such as Best Original Score and Best Original Song, the Oscars themselves are not dedicated exclusively to music. However, the awards do acknowledge and celebrate the importance of music in cinema by honoring composers, songwriters, and performers for their contributions to film soundtracks.

Academy Awards History
The inaugural Academy Awards presentation took place on May 16, 1929, at a private dinner function hosted at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Approximately 270 people attended the event.
The major award categories are presented during a live televised Hollywood ceremony, usually held in February or March. It is the oldest worldwide entertainment awards ceremony.
The Academy Awards are also the oldest among the four major annual American entertainment awards. The Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Awards for theater, and the Grammy Awards for music are modeled after the Academy Awards.
Following the awards ceremony, a post-awards party was held at the Mayfair Hotel. Guest tickets for the event cost $5 each, equivalent to $85 in 2020 prices. Fifteen statuettes were awarded, recognizing artists, directors, and other contributors to the film industry for their work during the 1927–1928 period. The entire ceremony lasted for 15 minutes.
For the inaugural ceremony, winners were announced to the media three months prior. In subsequent years, including the second ceremony in 1930 and throughout the first decade, results were provided to newspapers for publication at 11:00 pm on the night of the awards. However, in 1940, the Los Angeles Times revealed the winners before the ceremony began. This prompted the Academy to introduce the use of sealed envelopes to maintain suspense and reveal the winners during the ceremony.
The term “Oscar” is a registered trademark of the AMPAS. However, in the Italian language, it is commonly used generically to refer to any award or award ceremony, regardless of the field.
Milestones:-
The first Best Actor award was given to Emil Jannings for his performances in “The Last Command” and “The Way of All Flesh.” As he had to return to Europe before the ceremony, the Academy agreed to present him with the prize earlier, making him the first-ever Academy Award winner. Initially, winners were recognized for their work done in a certain category during a qualifying period.
For example, Jannings received the award for his roles in two movies during that period, while Janet Gaynor later won a single Oscar for performances in three films. However, starting with the fourth ceremony, professionals were honored for a specific performance in a single film. Additionally, for the first six ceremonies, the eligibility period spanned two calendar years.
